Booker DeWitt holster by Forcebewitya Booker DeWitt holster by Forcebewitya
I finally have some progress to share on my Booker DeWitt costume! This is his holster for the C96 Mauser hand gun he carries. I found some online but I wanted to be sure it matched the color I was dying my straps so I figured I'd just make one and since Booker's seems a little different than the ones I saw online I took the challenge to make one. This is my third holster I've made with the others being weird anime ones so really this  is the first time I've recreated a historicalish holster. I'm really happy with how it turned out aside from a few minor things. It's all weathered as well, the snap will get a patina finish alter on to match the beat up look of the entire costume. I have a few more pics on my cosplay page follow me on there!

Looks great! I've gotta ask, what oz. is the leather, and what kind? I've heard European Single Bends are excellent for wet molding, but wanted to get your opinion if you had ever used the stuff.

Gotcha, thanks! Did you pick some up some of Tandy's shoulders during their Black Friday sale? They were such a good deal.

wow that's a great deal I ended up getting a double shoulder for $65 Tandy in LA here seems more expensive I'm not sure if it is or not but it feels that way.

Well I guess if you got a double shoulder and paid twice what I did for a single shoulder that makes sense. It's hard for retail stores to vary price by region since the internet came along. I like Tandy's shoulders. They have some character and get the job done.

That looks good. I would make two alterations though for funcionality's sake. 1. Cut out the tip around the muzzle of the gun barrel. This will allow water and debris to fall out. If you look around, you'll find most holsters from the period are like that. 2. Make a cut-out in the holster around the trigger guard. This will allow for easier gripping with drawing the gun from the holster. As it is, you'd be stuck either gripping the bottom of the hand grip and readjusting before you can put your finger on the trigger, or trying to draw it using only your pinky and ring fingers, which is a weak grip at best.

Overall, a good look.

yeah I can see how having more room around the trigger to draw from is a good idea, however most the pictures I found on the internet of c96 holsters had a closed end to them. This is the picture I used most for reference besides the in game stuff (which is hard to see)   i193.photobucket.com/albums/z7…

It looks like only hte one on the far right has an open end and since I'm going for aesthetics rather than functionality I preferred the look of the closed
